Mobile Roadie Powers Another Soccer Club
Los Angeles-based Mobile Roadie appears to have tapped into a new source of customers: International football (soccer) clubs. The firm said Friday that one of the latest apps released to its platform is from the Everton Football Club, which is one of the oldest football clubs in England, in the city of Liverpool. Los Angeles, San Diego Among Top 10 Cities For Startups
A list of the top ten cities for startups was released by USA Today and the National Venture Capital Association today, naming both Los Angeles and San Diego among the best cities for startup companies. Los Angeles was ranked number 4, and San Diego was ranked number 6, based on a ranking provided to the National Venture Capital Assocation to USA Today. Ixia Completes BreakingPoint Systems Buy
Calabasas-based Ixia announced this morning that it has completed its acquisition of BreakingPoint Systems. The acquisition had been announced in July, and was worth $160M in cash. Ixia, a provider of IP network testing equipment and software, said the buy will help address pre-deployment and production network monitoring, testing and optimization. Mars Rover Hooks Up With Angry Birds Space
It looks like NASA's Curiosity rover has discovered something unusual on Mars: a videogame tie-in with the Angry Birds Space. NASA and Rovio, the maker of Angry Birds, announced a deal today where Rovio will release an update to the Angry Birds Space title, which will incorporate helping pigs and birds explore the Martian terrain. Qualcomm Buys Small Cell Developer DesignArt Networks
San Diego-based Qualcomm said late Thursday that it has acquired DesignArt Networks, a developer of small cell modem and system design for the cellular base station market. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. DesignArt is based in Ra'anana, Israel, and develops both systems-on-a-chip and software products. Qualcomm said that DesignArt's products ars used to enable the design of indoor and outdoor small cell base stations and remote radio heads.

TigerText Launches Pager Replacement App
Santa Monica-based TigerText, the developer of secure messaging apps for the healthcare industry, announced this morning that it has launched a new, HIPAA compliant smartphone app which lets users turn their smart phones into virtual pagers. The firm said its new app, "TigerPage", functions like a conventional pager, and also adds features like voice messages, message transcription, and one-click call backs. Logicube Names New CEO
Chatsworth-based Logicube, which develops hard drive duplication technology, announced this morning that it has named Farid Emrani as its new President and CEO. Emrani has been at Logicube since 2005, and was most recently EVP and COO. Emrani replaces Jack Schuster, the firm's Chairman, President, and CEO, who is retiring. Schuster will remain as Chairman. Emrani has previously served at Xerox Corporation, Lucent Technologies and Agere Systems.
