Hulu Officially Names CEO
Los Angeles-based television streaming site Hulu said Thursday that it has named Mike Hopkins as its new CEO. Hopkins, who was formerly an executive at Fox, has been expected to be named to the position for a few weeks. Hopkins was formerly an executive at Fox Networks. Hopkins replaces acting CEO Andy Forssell, who is leaving Hulu. Hopkins had served as President of Distribution for Fox Networks Group, a division of 21st Century Fox, since 2008.

Inari Medical Gets $4.7M For Medical Device Startup
Aliso Viejo-based Inari Medical, a medical device developer incubated out of Inceptus Medical, said Wednesday that it has raised $4.7M in a Series A funding round. The funding came from Versant Venturs and U.S. Venture Partners. Inceptus said that the funding will go towards development and commercialization of Inari's devices for the interventional treatment of cardiovascular disease. TextPower Finds $525,0000 For Text Messaging Handling
San Juan Capistrano-based TextPower, a developer of text messaging products aimed at enterprise alerts and the security and authentication market, said today that it has raised $525,000 in a Series A financing round. The financing came from the Tech Coast Angel's ACE Fund, as well as angel investors from Orange County. Myspace Launches New Features To Highlight Artists, Musicians
Los Angeles-based Myspace is ramping up its support of artists and musicians today, with two new features it says will help spotlight members of its community. Myspace said it launched two new initiatives, "Portfolio" and "Artist Films", which lets artists build their personal brand on the site. Portfolio is a multimedia tool aimed at helping artists showcase their work; Artist Films are personalized, short films which spotlight different artists. TigerLogic Sells Off Business Unit For $22M
Irvine-based TigerLogic, a developer of application development tools, said Wednesday that it has sold off its Multidimensional Database Management Systems (MDMS) business to Rocket Software, in a deal worth $22M in cash. TigerLogic said the divestiture will help it focus on its cloud-based platforms in the social and mobile business area. TigerLogic was advised by Viant Group in the deal.

MicroPower Technologies Names VP
San Diego-based MicroPower Technologies, the developer of solar-powered, wireless surveillance cameras, said Thursday that it has named Dave Tynan as its new Vice President of Global Marketing and Business Development. Tynan had worked for such companies as Avigilon, GE Security and Verint Video Solutions, and has more than 10 years of experience in the surveillance industry. MicroPower is venture backed by Karmel Capital, Motorola, and the Tech Coast Angels.

Qualcomm Vice Chairman To Retire
San Diego-based Qualcomm said late Wednesday that Steve Altman, the company's Vice Chairman, will retire from Qualcomm next January. Altman had been on Qualcom's board for almost 15 years, and had joined Qualcomm in 1989, serving in a number of roles, including General Counsel and President. The company said that Altman will continue to serve as a strategic consultant to the company after his retirement.

Amgen Names New Board Member
Thousand Oaks-based biopharmaceuticals developer Amgen said yesterday that it has named Greg C. Garland to its board of directors. Garland is Chairman, President, and CEO of Phillips 66. The company said that Garland will also serve on its Governance and Nominating Committee and the Audit Committee of its board. The new appointment brings Amgen's board to thirteen members. Garland also has served at COnocoPhillips and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company.
