mobileStorm Spins Out mPulse To Tackle Healthcare Opportunity
Los Angeles-based mobile marketing firm mobileStorm said today that it has spun off a new startup, mPulse, which is aiming to address a number of opportunities in the healthcare communications area. mPulse said it will help health plans, hospitals, pharmacies, wellness companies, and exchanges better engage with consumers. CollegeHumor Seeks Buyer, Says Report
Los Angeles-based online humor site CollegeHumor is reportedly on the block, with majority owner IAC looking to sell its stack in the company for $100M, According to Fortune. The report cited "sources familiar with the situation" in the move. Apparently, IAC has been shopping CollegeHumor.com around to companies due to the boom in online content activity, including the recent sales of Maker Studios, Fullscreen Media, BigFrame, and Stylehaul--all local Los Angeles multi-channel networks (MCNs). Sony PlayStation Network Knocked Offline Overnight
It looks like Sony just can't get a break from hackers nowadays, as news came this morning that Sony's Playstation Network (PSN) was knocked offline for hours on Sunday night, as a result of a massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the gaming service. Sony has been dealing with ongoing hacker activity against its service for months. Apparently, the group behind the DDoS attack on Sony was also behind a similar DDoS attack on Xbox Live on Friday. Sonos Upgrades Software
Santa Barbara-based Sonos has launched an updated to its software, saying last week that it has rolled out Sonos 5.2, which adds new service like Deezer Elite and SoundCloud, new playlist tools, and more. The company said the release has improved the music search function, the sound performance of the PLAYBAR, support for multiple, music service accounts, and other updates. NantHealth, BlackBerry Tie On Cancer Effort
Culver City-based NantHealth, the health information technology venture founded by billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, has tied with BlackBerry Limited to provide smartphone access to NantHealth's resources According to the two, they have created a secure, clinical genome browser which gives doctors access to patients genetic data on BlackBerry's PassPort smartphone. The two said the app is one of the first in a series of products being developed jointly by BlackBerry and NantHealth.

Kurion Opens European Office
Irvine-based nuclear and hazardous waste management technology developer Kurion has opened up a new, European office, and established a new subsidiary called Kurion Limited, the company announced this morning. According to Kurion, it has named Phillip Ohl as Senior Vice President of European operations; Ohl was previously the company's Chief Operating Officer. Qualcomm In Telemedicine Effort
San Diego-based Qualcomm said this morning that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Life, is in a collaboration effort with vitaphone e-health solutions, a provider of health care management, telemonitoring, telemedicine devices and patient coaching. Electro Rent Expands In Texas
Van Nuys-based Electro Rent, a provider of electronic test equipment rental, leasing, and sales, said today that it has opened up a new, regional service center in Houston, Texas. The company said the new location will service local demand in that area for test and measurement equipment. The company says it has a large number of oil, gas, and energy customers in Texas.
