Demand Media Content Revenues Continue To Plunge
Santa Monica-based Demand Media reported its quarterly earnings Monday afternoon, revealing a precipitous decline in the company's content revenues. Demand Media said that its Content and Media revenues dropped 40%, from $22.5M in the first three months of 2015 to just $13.5M in the first three months of 2016. The company fared far better in its new, marketplace business, where revenues rose from $10.7M in Q1 of 2015 to $13.5M in Q1 of 2016. MaxLinear Buys Broadcom's Wireless Backhaul Business
Carlsbad-based radio frequency and mixed signal integrated circuits developer MaxLinear said Monday afternoon that it has acquired the Wireless Infrastrcute Backhaul Business of Irvine-based Broadcom. MaxLinear said it woud pay $80.0M in cash for certain assets and intellectual property related to that Broadcom unit, which develops technology in the microwave, millimeter wave, and other 5G market areas. Edeniq Acquired By Aemetis
Edeniq, a cellulosic biofuels technology developer which had spun out of now defunct, Los Angeles-based Altra Biofuels, has been acquired by Silicon Valley biofuels developer Aemetis, the two said late last week. Aemetis said it would pay between between one and two million shares of its common stock, plus cash worth up to $20M over the next five years, for Edeniq. The Young Turks Returns To TV With New Show On Fusion
Los Angeles-based online content network The Young Turks said today that it is returning to linear television for the first time since 2013, with a new show on Fusion. The new show features hosts Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, who will travel to college campuses to cover the Presidential election. NantHealth Files For IPO
Culver City-based NantHealth, one of the companies out of billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong's collection of NantWorks companies, has filed for an IPO, saying this morning that it is looking to raise up to $92.0M in a public offering. NantHealth said it intends to list on the NASDAQ Global Market as NH. The IPO is being underwritten by Jeffries, Cowen and Company, First Analysis Securities Co., and FBR. Brighter: More Than 75,000 Dentists Now On Platform
Santa Monica-based Brighter, the dental healthcare company led by startup veteran Jake Winebaum, said this morning that it now has almost 75,000 dentists on its marketplace. The company--which lets consumers shop for local dentists--says it has been working with health insurance carriers to integrate into its directory, which had initially been aimed at self paying dental patients. Sophiris Bio Raises $5M Via PIPE
San Diego-based biopharmaceuticals firm b>a href="http://www.sophirisbio.com">Sophiris Bio said Friday that it has raised approximately $5M, via a private placement from an investor. The publicly held firm, which trades as SPHS on the NASDAQ, said the new investor paid $1.40 per share in the investment, and als will receive a warrant to purchase one-half of a share of the company's common stock at the same prive, five years from closing. Lieberman Software Teams With Canadian Company
Los Angeles-based security software developer Lieberman Software said this morning that it has teamed with Canadian company Aikya Security Solutions, to expand its resach in Canada. The two said that Aikya will offer up Lieberman's Enterprise Random Password Manager (ERPM) product to its customers. Aikya serves the utility and financial industries.

Cubic Wins $200M Air Force Contract
San Diego-based defense systems developer Cubic said this morning that its Cubic Global Defense (CGD) unit has scored a $200M, five year, cost plus fixed fee contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The company said the contract covers research and evaluation of warfighter readiness and training. The contract covers work at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
