San Diego-based cloud storage services provider Nirvanix reported Tuesday that it has hired Chris Russell as vice president of engineering. Nirvanix described Russell as a longtime technology executive with more than 20 years of hands-on experience. Nirvanix said Russell hails from NextEngine, where he was vice president of technology. Before that, Nirvanix noted, he was chief technology officer and a general manager for DivX Inc. Russell has also held leadership roles for the Motion Picture Association of America, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Nirvanix is a privately held company backed by more than $23 million in venture funding. Its backers include Intel Capital, Valhalla Partners, Mission Ventures, Windward Ventures and the European Founders Fund.
