SMC Taps Agere For Gigabit Ethernet

Irvine-based SMC Networks said this week that it is shipping a new line of Gigabit workgroup switches powered by Agere single chip Ethernet chips. SMC's TigerSwitch 1000 switches provide 48-port Gigabit Ethernet connectivity using a single chip, lowering the cost of providing Gigabit Ethernet. SMC is targeting corporate networks where administrators are looking to upgrade network speeds and capabilities. The SMC switches also include support for secure network access and management through SSH, SSL/HTTPS, and RADIUS and TACACS+.
