TI Buys Chipcon
Texas Instruments said today that it is acquiring Oslo-based Chipcon, a provider of RF transceivers and systems on a chip, including its software design center in San Diego. TI said it has agreed to pay approximately $200M for the firm. The company said that it will use the acquisition to broaden its RF solutions and ZigBee products. Chipcon acquired San Diego-based Figure 8 Wireless in January of this year for its ZigBee firmware and software. Chipcon's system-on-a-chip ZigBee technology and protocol stack are used by manufacturers of equipment to implement the ZigBee wireless standard.
