Umbra Trumpets Free Satellite Data Program

Santa Barbara-based space radar imaging provider Umbra says it has made over $1 million worth of free, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging available to the public since March. According to the company, that is "more open data than all other SAR providers combined". The company is using satellite imaging technology which can see through clouds or can acquire images at night; the company is targeting commercial and government customers with its imaging. The company offers up "sub-50cm" imaging, which has previously only been available to the defense industry and the military, and is far greater resolution than such public satellites as those from the EU's Sentinel-1 satellite.
