Chipotle Pilots RFID Tracking

Newport Beach-based restaurant chain Chipotle said today that it is piloting a new, RFID (radio-frequency identification) tracing system in Chicago, as part of its Chicago distribution center and 200 of its restaurants in Chicago. The chain--having been bitten in the past by food safety issues--said the system will allow it to track ingredients all the way from its suppliers to restaurants using RFID case labels. The company is initially tracking its meat, dairy, and avocados from five different Chipotle suppliers.
