Conexant Announces VoIP CoProcessors
Newport Beach-based Conexant said this morning that its has introduced a new suite of voice coprocessors designed for the Voice-over-IP market. The company's new CX9041X family is targeted at voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phones, analog terminal adaptors (ATAs), digital subscriber line (DSL) voice routers, integrated access devices (IADs), and multi-tenant unit/multi-dwelling unit (MTU/MDU) voice and data systems. Air-Trak Opens GPS Web Services API
San Diego-based Air-Trak announced this morning that it has released a Web Services API which allows software developers and customers to easily integrate their applications with the Air-Trak GPS tracking and communications system. Air-Trak said that customers are using the API to integrate with GIS (Geographic Information System) products such as ESRI's ArcMAP software, track petroleum industry shipments, and newspaper delivery dispatch. ValueClick Merges Mediaplex, Adware Brands
Westlake Village-based ValueClick said this morning that it has merged its Mediaplex and AdWare Systems brands into the Mediaplex brand. AdWare and Mediaplex were acquired by ValueClick in 2001, and will now be represented under one brand. The two subsidiaries both provide tracking, execution, and planning of online and offline advertising campaigns. The subsidiaries are one of a diverse services that ValueClick offers to advertisers, agencies, and customers.

Chipcon Acquires Figure 8 Wireless
San Diego-based Figure 8 Wireless has been acquired by Norway-based Chipcon AS, a provider of low power, low data rate RF ICs. Figure 8 is a provider of firmware and software for the new Zigbee and 802.15.4 wireless standard. Terms were not disclosed in the all-stock transaction. The combined company will focus on low power wireless monitoring and control applications, with Figure 8 Wireless as a wholly owned subsidiary. Bertelsmann Settles With Music Publisher Over Napster
The Associated Press is reporting that Bertelsmann AG has agreed to settle with a music publisher over its support of defunct file swapping service Napster. Bridgeport Music had sued Bertelsmann over its support of the venture. The settlement covers Bridgeport's legal fees and amounted to $50,000. Lawsuits are still pending against Bertelsmann and venture backer Hummer Winblad from Universal Music, EMI Music, and others. Venture Funding On The Rise
A recently released venture survey shows that venture funding is up nationwide, after several years of declines. The Ernst & Young/VentureOne venture survey, released Friday, showed that U.S. Venture Capital investment increased to $20.4B last year, the first year to year increase since 2000. The survey showed that seed- and first-round deals captured significantly more of the activity this year, making up 37% of all venture capital activity.
