Alera Upgrades DVD Duplicator
Chatsworth-based Alera Technologies announced this morning that it has upgraded its DVD/CD Duplicator to support 16x recording speeds and 8.6GB Double Layer recording technology. The developer and manufacturer of optical recording devices said that the new DVD and CD duplicator is targeted at prosumer users. The devices is bundled with the Nero Authoring and Writing Suite, MusicMatch Jukebox, and Cyberlink PowerDVD.

AWR Signs Customer
El Segundo-based Applied Wave Research said this morning that it has signed Eagle Test Systems, a supplier of automated test equipment for the semiconductor industry, as a customer. Eagle will use Applied Wave Research's radio frequency (RF) design tools for designing its test systems. AWR's products are used for electromagnetic simulation, integrated circuit, and printed circuit board design.

Acacia Acquires Patent Portfolio
Newport Beach-based Acacia Research has acquired the assets of Global Patent Holdings LLC, a privately held patent holding company based in Illinois, for $5M plus 3.9M shares of its stock. According to Acacia, it will use the patents to expand its revenue generating opportunities. Acacia has actively been pursuing companies who it feels infringes on its patent portfolio in the areas of video on demand and broadband video streaming. Verimatrix Finds $5.0M
San Diego-based Verimatrix announced that it has raised a round of funding from Mission Ventures and Siemens Venture Capital. The firm, which develops digital rights management software, reported that the funding will go towards further expansion of sales, marketing, and product development efforts. Innovative Micro Technology Raises $17.0M
Santa Barbara-based Innovative Micro Technology has raised a Series A funding round of $17.0M from BA Venture Partners, Investor Growth Capital, and Miramar Venture Parners.
