Conexant, Tandberg Team on MPEG-4 Video Coding
Newport Beach-based Conexant and Tandberg Television said that the two companies have completed MPEG-4 interoperability testing. The two companies have verified that Conexant's CX2418X family of decoders are interoperable with Tandberg's MPEG-4 AVC high definition real time broadcast encoders. Tandberg is a developer of video compression systems. Conexant's devices are MPEG-4 Part 10 compatible, and supports broadcast formats and resolutions of up to 1920x1080

Tarai Cites OEM Customers For Media Encoder
San Diego-based Tarari said yesterday at NAB that a total of five OEMs are now shipping its Windows Media accelerator. The company said that 1 Beyond, Boxx Technologies, Digital Rapids, Root 6 and Zetools have all signed up to include the Tarari Encoder Accelerator for Windows Media in solutions for movie studios, post production houses, and the IPTV industry. Insider Pages Closes Advertising Beta Test
Pasadena-based Insider Pages is announcing today that its advertising beta test of its service generated more than $1M in new business for advertisers in the last 30 days. The company is developing a customer review-based advertising platform coupled with a pay-per-call system where advertisers only pay when they are called through a referral. Disney Reports 16 Percent Monthly Traffic Increase
North Hollywood-based Disney Online reported this week that it has seen a 16 percent increase in traffic in March, representing a 44 percent year to year increase in traffic to its online entertainment destinations. The company reported more than 19 million unique visitors in March, up from 16.4M in February. Disney said that its biggest growth was in visits by Seniors ages 55 and above, as well as with kids aged 6-14. Inventor Wins $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize
An inventor of technology for focusing sound over distances has won the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT prize. Elwood G. Norris, founder and Chairman of San Diego-based American Technology Corporation, was awarded the prize Lemelson-MIT Prize for inventing technology that creates highly directional sound using ultrasonic energy to focus sound exactly where it is targeted. CalAmp Acquires Skybility
Oxnard-based CalAmp said yesterday that it has purchased Carlsbad-based Skybility, a developer of embedded cellular transceivers. Skybility's products are used for remote asset tracking and telemetry using GSM and AMPS cellular networks. The companies said that Skybility's customers include DEWALT, Aircept by AirIQ, InterTrak, and SupplyNet.
