PriceGrabber.com Moves Into Cell Phone Comparison Shopping
Los Angeles-based comparison shopping site PriceGrabber.com said this morning that it has launched a new comparison shopping engine for cell phones, plans, and accessories. The firm said that it now offers shoppers the ability to find and compare cell phones from multiple carriers and resellers. The search engine gives the ability to search by minutes, monthly cost, or available phones. Caltech Gets Nanosystems Funding
Pasadena-based Caltech is reporting that it has received $3.6M from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to develop the Nanosystems Biology Cancer Center at the school. The awards is expecfted to continue for give years and total $18M. The center will use nanotechnology and microfluidics-based chips as part of an effort to develop and validate tools for the early detection of cancer. Apacheta Finds $2M From Palisades Ventures
San Diego-based Apacheta announced yesterday that it has raised $2M in funding from Palisades Ventures. The Series B funding will be used to support the company's growth and expansion. The company is a provider of supply chain management systems for mobile delivery and sales firms. The company's wireless handheld solutions allow companies to track deliveries and eliminate paper in the delivery process. Airsis Raises Series A
San Diego-based Airsis has closed a $1M Series A venture round from the Tech Coast Angels. The round is the company's first institutional investment round. The Tech Coast Angels' co-investment partner the Serpahim Fund also participated. The firm said that it would use the funding to grow its sales force, implement marketing programs, and develop new products. August Search Engine Market Numbers Stable
comScore has reported its August 2005 numbers for search engine market share, showing that search engine share of the U.S. audience have remained mostly unchanged from last year. The comScore qSearch numbers compared August 2005 and August 2004 audience reach numbers for the major search engines, showing that Google commanded 37.3% of searchers in August 2005, up from 36.1% last year. Q3 Venture Totals Dominated By Healthcare
The Q3 Venture totals showing investments in the Southern California area totaled $401.0M last quarter, with 12 deals in July, 17 deals in August, and 11 deals in September.
