Teledyne Buys Rockwell Scientific for $167.5M
Los Angeles-based Teledyne Technologies said today that it is acquiring Thousand Oaks-based Rockwell Scientific Company, for $167.5M. Rockwell Scientific provides research and development services, and infrared and visible light imaging sensors, and is co-owned by Rockwell Automation and Rockwell Collins. Teledyne said that Rockwell Automation and Rockwell Collins have entered into service agreements to continue funding research performed by Rockwell Scientific. Kazaa, Record Industry Settles Lawsuits For $100M
Sharman Networks, maker of the popular peer-to-peer file sharing software Kazaa, has agreed to pay over $100M in a legal settlement with the recording industry. The settlement calls for Kazaa to pay the settlement to companies that took the legal action to stop copyright infringement on Kazaa, and for Kazaa to introduce filtering technology to prevent distribution of copyrighted files. Gizmo Ties Into LiveJournal
San Diego-based SIPphone, and Six Apart, maker of the popular blogging software MovableType and online blog community LiveJournal, said Wednesday that they connect their instant messaging, voice, and presence services. SIPphone's Gizmo internet calling software and Six Apart's LiveJournal tool will enable LiveJournal users to call each other, see presence information, and send instant messages, and will be co-branded by the two companies. AltaSens Gets Win At Tandberg
Thousand Oaks-based AltaSense, a manufacturer of CMOS image sensors, said today that Tandberg is deploying the company's MOS sensors in its PrecisionHD cameras. The chip will be used in Tandberg's group of HD video systems, used for videoconfercing and meetings. AltaSens said that Tandberg will use its ProCamHD 2462 sensor, a high resolution, 1.3 megapixel sensor for providing progressive digital video as 1280 by 720 resolution. Thomson Ramps Up HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc Production
Thomson's Technicolor Home Entertainment Services business is ramping up its manufacturing and distribution of both HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc, the firm said Wednesday, and has installed new next-generation DVD replication lines at the company's Camarillo, California manufacturing plant. Thomson said that its Technicolor division now has three HD DVD and three Blu-ray Disc replication lines, along with mastering and testing equipment at its center in Camarillo. Gamevil Opens Los Angeles Office
South Korea-based Gamevil, a developer of mobile game titles, is opening a Los Angeles office, according to reports in trade press following the industry. Gamevil is a developer of mobile games for cell phones. The firm's cell phone games are distributed via SK Telecom and other mobile carriers. Its title include CBS Sportsline.com Baseball 2005 and Skipping Stone.

Systems Integration Firms Neudesic and AVIVA Merge
Irvine-based Neudesic, a provider of information technology integration for the Microsoft market, has merged with AVIVA Consulting Group, a provider of consulting for the compliance and document management market. The two companies said that they will merge under the Neudesic name and continue to provide Microsoft solutions to their customers. Financial terms of the merger were not disclosed. Novacoast Buys Philadephia Systems Integrator
Santa Barbara-based Novacoast, a provider of IT professional services, has purchased eNvision Data Solutions, a Philadelphia-based systems integrator focused on open systems, identity management, and Linux. Financial terms were not diclosed. Novacoast said that it acquired the firm for its engineering skills in identity management and Linux.

E! Entertainment Ties Into iTunes
Los Angeles-based E! Entertainment and Cupertino-based Apple today said that E! will add new programs to the iTunes Music Store. E! will post episodes from a number of the television networks shows for purchase and download on Apple's video catalog. Titles included in the deal include 'The Girls Next Door', 'The Soup', 'The Simple Life: 'Til Death Do Us Part' and 'Dr. 90210'. The television network is the latest to jump on the iTunes video store bandwagon.
