TherMark Adds Sales Head
Los Angeles-based TherMark Holdings announced this week that it has named Howard Rupprecht as Director of Sales and Marketing. The firm, which is angel funded by the Tech Coast Angels and Pasadena Angels, develops laser marking technology and materials. Rupprecht joins Thermark from Valor Computerized Systems. TherMark's laser marking process allows high resolution logos, identification, and other marks to be produced on surfaces such as metal, glass, stone, and plastics.

Amira Pharmaceuticals Raises $25M
San Diego-based Amira Pharmaceuticals has raised $25M in a Series B financing, the firm said today. The investment was led by Novo A/S, and also included Avalon Ventures, Prospect Venture Partners, and Versant Ventures. The round brings the company's total venture capital to $40M. Amira is focused on development of biopharmaceuticals to treat inflammatory disease.

Activision In Publishing Deal With Live Nation
Santa Monica-based Activision has signed a deal with Live Nation around Live Nation's Monster Jam monster truck tour, the company said Thursday. Activision Publishing has been granted exclusive worldwide rights to develop and distribute video games around the Monster Jam series and its monster trucks. Activision said that the first game under the agreement is expected to be available in stores this holiday season. Power-One Gets Favorable Patent Ruling
Camarillo-based Power-One announced this morning that it has received a favorable ruling in a patent infringement lawsuit it has pending against Artesyn Technologies. According to a statement released by Power-One, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, has rejected a defense raised by Artesyn that Power One's patents are invalid. Logical Apps Adds Customer
Logical Apps, an Irvine-based provider of compliance software for the Oracle market, has signed on a new customer, the firm announced Thursday. Logical Apps said that Fidelity National Information Services has selected the firm's ACTIVE Governance product to manage Fidelity's governance, risk, and compliance programs. Financial size of the deal was not disclosed. FIS is a provider of banking technology to the financial industry.

Occam Scores Win In Georgia
Occam Networks, the Santa Barbara-based supplier of Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment, has scored a win in Macon Georgia. The firm, whose equipment is used to deploy broadband and voice services for competitive local exchange carriers, said that it has been selected by Access Integrated Networks Inc. Overland Targets SMBs With Disk To Disk Data Protection
San Diego-based Overland Storage has rolled out new, disk-based data protection products targeted at the SMB market, the firm said earlier this week. Overland said that its new REO 1500 provides disk-based backup, recovery, and virtual tape library functionality for small to medium-sized businesses. The new unit supports up to 2B of data and what the firm says is performance that is five times faster that its previous models.
