Siderean Upgrades Search Platform
El Segundo-based Siderean, a developer of search software for navigating large volumes of information, has upgraded the firm's flagship Seamark Navigator product. Siderean said Monday that Seamark Navigator 4.5 adds new user-participation capabilities, including tagging, voting, ranking, and reviewing of information, along with other enhancements. SmartSound, Sony In Patent Licensing Deal
Northridge-based SmartSound Software has scored a deal with Sony to license patents covering the firm's automatic editing processes for music, the company said today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however Smartsound said that the non-exclusive license will allow Sony Creative Software to include its automatic music scoring processes in Sony's Cinescore soundtrack product line. Quanlight Adds $3M In Series B Funding
San Diego-based Quanlight has added $3M in a Series B funding, the company said Monday morning. The developer of high-power, red light emitting diodes (LEDs) said that the funding was led by Blackbird ventures and (SHW)2 Enterprises, along with private investors. Harvey White, chairman of (SHW)2, has joined the board. White is former director, president, and COO of Qualcomm, as well as CEO and Chairman of Leap Wireless.

The Active Network Acquires Jencess Software & Technologies
San Diego-based The Active Network said today that it has acquired Jencess Software & Technologies, Inc., a provider of golf management software. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Jencess is a provider of software used by golf course management, including point of sale, accounting, and golf tournaments. NextWave Wireless Completes IPWireless Buy
San Diego-based NextWave Wireless has completed its acquisition of IPWireless, a supplier of TD-CDMA mobile broadband network equipment. NextWave said that IPwireless will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of NextWave. The $100M acquisition was originally announced in April.

Strix Systems Gets Rail Win
Calabasas-based Strix Systems announced Monday that the firm's wireless mesh networking hardware has been selected in an installation with the North County Transit District (NCTD) of San Diego. The firm's wireless networking products have been installed as part of a real-time mobile communications system for the rail line. The equipment is being used for remote video surveillance inside trains, tracks, bridges, and tunnels. The install was funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

SupplyFrame Powers Electronic Component Search Engine
Pasadena-based SupplyFrame and Reed Business Information said today that the two companies have launched a new electronic component search engine within EDN's online publications. EDN is a magazine focused on electric design engineers and others. SupplyFrame will power a parts search capability on EDN's web site, to allow them to find price quotes, datasheets, and other information on electronic components. IFC, VMIX Partner On Web Series
San Diego-based VMIX and the Independent Film Channel (IFC) disclosed this morning that the two are working on a new, web series as part of a new IFC channel on the VMIX.com web site. IFC will begin airing "Getting Away With Murder" as an online-only offering. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. IFC said that the online series is aimed at showcasing the firm's unique content and to increase viewership. VMIX is a provider of an online video sharing web site.

Specific Media Gets Win With Ford Motor
Irvine-based Specific Media announced today that it has signed an advertising commitment with Ford Motor Company. The deal covers advertising campaigns for Ford's 2007-2008 Lincoln Mercury models, including the automaker's new MKZ, MKX and Mercury Mariner vehicles. Specific Media develops an online advertising targeting technology used by advertisers to better target audiences, and is venture backed by Enterprise Partners and Shepherd Ventures.

Networks In Motion Expands In Europe
Aliso Viejo-based Networks In Motion, a venture-backed provider of wireless navigation and local search technology, said today that it has opened a new subsidiary in Europe. Networks In Motion AB will be haedquartered in Sweden, and will provide its GPS navigation, local search, and other location based services to the European mobile phone market. The new office will be headed by Christopher Kingdon, and will also include other business development, engineering, and product management teams.
