THQ Loses VP, Names New Execs
Agoura Hills-based interactive game publisher THQ said Monday afternoon that it has named two new executives. The firm said that Scott Guthrie has been promoted to Executive Vice President in charges of sales, distribution, and marketing to North and South America; and also named Ian Curran to Executive Vice President for sales covering areas outside of the Americas. Language Weaver Signs Marketing Deal
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver said Monday that it has signed a strategic marketing and integration agreement with Armedia LLC, an Atlanta-based provider of software and services for the EMC Documentum market. Language Weaver said that Armedia has integrated EMC Documentum with the firm's statistical machine translation software. Famster.com Goes White-Label
Famster.com, the online web site focused on social networking and photo sharing for families, said this morning that it has launched a new white label social networking solution for brands. The company, which is based in Las Vegas but maintains all of its development operations in Los Angeles, said that the new offering is targeted at brands looking to capitalize on the growing trend of niche social networking. Acer Buys Gateway Computer
Acer Inc., the Taiwanese PC manufacturer, said early Monday morning that it is in an agreement to acquire Irvine-based Gateway, Inc. in a deal worth approximately $710M in cash. Acer said it will offer $1.90 per share for all of the outstanding shares of Gateway, in a acquisition which has been approved by both companies' board of directors. MRV Communications, APCON Settle Patent Lawsuit
Oregon-based APCON said today that the firm has settled its patent dispute with Chatsworth's MRV Communications. APCON, which manufactures physical layer switches used for communications and laboratory networks, had sued MRV Communications in January over a patent covering APCON's switching cross-connect technology. Northrop Grumman Acquires Scaled Composites
Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman said today that it has completed its acquisition of Scaled Composites, LLC, a provider of aerospace and specialty composites development. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, however Northrop Grumman already owned 40 percent of Scaled Composites before the acquisition. AMO Hires New VP
Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics said this morning that it has appointed Richard J. DeRisio as VP of Global Regulatory Affairs. DeRisio will head up the firm's development and execution of worldwide regulatory strategies, the firm said. Iomega Announces Network Hard Drive Line
San Diego-based Iomega, a provider of data storage hardware, said today that it has announced a new line of network hard drives. The new drives, which are targeted at the home market, offer 320GB, 360GB, and 500GB of network data storage for home users with Ethernet networks. FastSoft Hires Sales, Finance Execs
Monrovia-based FastSoft, a Caltech spinoff which is developing appliances for accelerating Internet data transfer, said today that it has hired two new executives at the firm. Mike Beard has joined the company as Director of Sales, and Pamela Hunt has joined the company as financial comptroller.
