Language Weaver Bolsters Languages, Linux Support
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver said Wednesday that the firm has added support for Linux with its automated language translation tools. According to the firm, all of its language translation pairs can now run on Linux operating systems. The firm developed machine translation systems based on statistical translation algorithms, and is a spinoff the the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute. USC Entertainment Technology Center Adds Sponsor
The Entertainment Technology Center at USC, a nonprofit which is part of USC's School of Cinematic Arts, said Tuesday that the firm has added LG Electronics as a sponsor. The nonprofit--which focuses on bringing together entertainment, technology, and consumer electronics--said that LG Electronics will sponsor a showcase of products, services, and technologies, and serve on an advisory board. Sendio Signs Real Estate Customer
Irvine-based Sendio, a provider of email security appliances, said yesterday that it has signed on Sentinel Real Estate Corporation as a customer. Sendio said that the $5B manager of real estate properties would use it for its email security efforts. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Eventful Gets Win At LA Times
Event listing startup Eventful, based in San Diego, said Wednesday that it has entered into a strategic venture with the Los Angeles Times. According to the firm, it will provide a selection of its regional events to online users of the times "The Guide" hyperlocal events site. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. United Online Buys FTD
Woodland Hills-based United Online said this morning that it has agreed to acquire FTD Group, Inc, in a deal worth approximately $800M. FTD is a provider of floral and related products. According to the firms, United Online will pay $7.34 in cash plus 0.4087 shares of Untied Online common stock, plus $3.31 in secured notes, for each share of FTD common stock. FastSoft Rolls Partner Program
Pasadena-based FastSoft, the Caltech spinoff focused on digital media acceleration, said this week that it has launched a new partner program. The firm said that it will provide volume discounts, tehcnical support, lead generation, marketing, and other support to its VARs and system integrators.
