Pragmatic Solutions Powers America's Army Release
Westlake Village-based Pragmatic Solutions, a developer of server-side software for online computer games titles, said today that the firm is powering the deployment client for America's Army 3, the PC action game distributed by the U.S. Army. Pragmatic said that it developed the Deploy Client which helps users download the game from AOL's Big Download.com web site. The deployment software helps users pre-load the game to their PCs. Givezooks Lands $500K In Debt Funding
Santa Barbara-based Givezooks, an online site focused on charity giving, disclosed this week that the firm has raised $500,000 in a debt financing. Source or details of the financing were not released by the company. Givezooks operates a site which helps nonprofits raise funding for their organizations.

Sorrento Therapeutics Gets $2.3M
San Diego-based Sorrento Therapeutics, a new biotechnology startup, has raised $2.3M in an equity funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm yesterday. Source of the funding was not disclosed. The firm is headed by Antonius Schuh, who serves as founding chairman and CEO; the firm's CFO is Steve Zaniboni. Dr. Schuh was previously CEO and Director of AviaraDx, and also served at Arcturus Bioscience and Sequenom.

Verimatrix Gains Another Latin American Win
San Diego-based Verimatrix, a provider of digital content security technology and products for pay TV, said this week that the firm has gained another Latin American customer. The firm said that CANTV, which is looking to offer IPTV services in Venezuela, has integrated the firm's VCAS products. CANTV is owned by Venezuela, and is targeting delivering services to 1.26 million IPTV customer in the next six years, according to Verimatrix. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Entropic Names New Board Member
San Diego-based Entropic Communications reported Thursday that the firm has named Keith Bechard to the firm's board of directors. Bechard is from the cable industry, and owns Pear Lake Consulting, which the company said has advised Canoe Ventures and PolyChiper, cable industry joint ventures owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications others.
