Electro Rent Acquires Electronic Test Equipment Firm
Van Nuy-based Electro Rent, a firm which provides rental, leasing, and sales of electronic test equipment, said Thursday that it has won a bid to acquire the assets of Telogy, LLC, a bankrupt provider of electronic test equipment. Electro Rent said it would pay $26.7M in cash for Telogy, adjusted based on changes in Telogy's net accounts receivable, equipment purchases and equipment sales since September 30, 2009. Quartics Opens Office In Shanghai
Irvine-based Quartics, the video IC firm founded by Safi Qureshey, best known for founding AST, said Thursday evening that the firm has opened up a new center in Shanghai, China. The firm said the center will focus on video algorithm development and systems engineering. Quartics said it has more than twenty engineers in China today, and will be expanding to include as many as fifty personnel this year. The new center will also support its Chinese customers. Everbridge Claims Record 2009 Growth
Los Angeles-based Everbridge, a provider of incident notification systems, said Thursday that the firm had record growth in 2009. The privately held firm did not disclose actual financials, or break out 2009's growth numbers, however, it said it had an average annual growth rate of over 130 percent over the last three years. MySpace: We're Not Selling User Data
Los Angeles-based MySpace, under fire for selling its user data, said today that it is not selling its data. The firm said that its data is already available--free of charge--to third party developers, as well as such services as Google and its real-time search; and that it only shares data that users have made public. Looking to spur a show of company spirit, Jared Reitzin the CEO and founder of email and mobile marketing firm mobileStorm, is dangling $1,000 to any employee who gets a tattoo of the company's logo, and allows him to blog about it--and has tattooed his company logo on his own ankle, in his own show of dedication to his firm. Launchpad LA Opens Apps For Second Class
Launchpad LA, the business incubation and mentoring effort started by GRP's Mark Suster, said today that it has opened up applications for its second class of companies. uSamp Unveils Panel Management Offerings
Encino-based uSamp, the online survey firm started by former goZing founders Matt Dusig and Gregg Lavin, announced today that it has rolled out a new set of online offerings focused on market researchers and brand managers. Cogi Rolls Out Audio Transcription Service
Santa Barbara-based Cogi, a startup which provides a service to capture and transcribe business phone calls, announced today that it has rolled out a new, standalone transcription service. Cogi said its new "Cogi Transcribe" service allows businesses to upload audio or video recordings, and will provide 24 hour turnaround on transcriptions of those recordings for $1.00 per minute. HP Settles With Two SoCal Firms Over Inkjet Imports
Printer giant HP disclosed this morning that it has settled with two, Southern California importers of inkjet cartridges, as part of a larger investigation by the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) over importation and sale of HP 02-comatible inkjet ink cartridges. Broadcom Ships Single Chip, Ethernet Switch
Irvine-based Broadcom announced this morning that the firm has shipped a new series of Ethernet switching chips. Broadcom claims the new BCM56840 series are the "world's fastest" single-chip Ethernet switching devices. The company said that the new devices can be used to provide up to 64 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, or 16 ports of 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, and are targeted at developers of top-of-rack switches, blade switches, and modular switches. Anametrix Buys Nordic Research
San Diego-based Anametrix, a new business analytics software firm headed by Blaise Barrelet, founder of WebSideStory, announced this morning that it has acquired Nordic Research Corporation, a business analytics technology firm. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Anametrix said that the founder of Nordic Research, Anders Olsson, joins the company as Chief Technical Officer. Olsson was System Architect at WebSideStory.
