Vitesse Execs Charged With Fraud
The Securities and Exchange Commission said Friday that it has filed civil fraud charges against four former senior executives of Camarillo-based Vitesse, over their role in backdating stock options and inflating revenues from shipments of Vitesse's products. Vitesse Finalizes Settlement With SEC
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor said of Friday that it has finalized a settlement with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), over the SEC's investigations into the firm's historical stock options practices and accounting. According to Vitesse, it has agreed to pay $3.0M to the SEC, without admitting or denying wrongdoing, which will conclude the SEC's investigation of Vitesse. Bizzy Launches iPhone App
Bizzy, the personalized, local recommendations site owned by Woodland Hills-basedReachLocal, told its users Friday that it has launched a new iPhone application for the service. The service--which recommends restaurants, shops, and entertainment to users based on the profiles and preferences of other users--said the new app is free. JasonNation Becomes The LAUNCH Newsletter
Jason Calacanis, the CEO of Santa Monica-based Mahalo.com, told his personal email newsletter readers Friday that he has renamed the newsletter from JasonNation, to the LAUNCH Newsletter. The move comes a month after Calacanis said he was launching his own competitor to Michael Arrington's TechCrunch Disrupt conference, called the LAUNCH Conference. Active Network Wins Air Force Marathon
San Diego-based Active Network, the online provider of sports and community websites, said this week that it will provide the online registration and marketing for the Air Force Marathon, which is held at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. Financial terms of the win were not disclosed. Active said it is providing its technology, including online registration, marketing, and volunteer management and event management tools to the marathon through 2015.

FLO TV Offers Up Device Rebates
San Diego-based Qualcomm has detailed rebates and refunds on users of its FLO TV devices, as the firm gets set to shut down its mobile television service. Qualcomm--which said in October that it would be shutting down FLO TV--said it is ending FLO TV service on March 27, 2011. Goodreads Sees Boost From Google eBooks
Santa Monica-based GoodReads, the online book discussion community run by Otis Chandler, is seeing a nice uptick in its traffic after the launch of Google's eBook store Monday. DealPerk Acquired By Screamin Daily Deals
Orange County-based DealPerk, the online daily deals site headed by Albert Ko, has been acquired by fellow daily deals site Screamin Daily Deals, based in San Juan Capistrano. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. Both DealPerk and Screamin Daily Deals compete in the highly competitive, and crowded, local deals business, which is led by companies like Groupon.

Twidroyd Launches New Customization Features
Pasadena-based PostUp, the Twitter advertising startup created by Idealab, said last night that it has launched Twidroyd Factory, a new customization product for the Twidroyd Twitter client for Android. Novatel Wireless Files Patent Lawsuit Against Two Firms
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless, the maker of broadband modems and the MiFi mobile hotspot device, said this morning that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Franklin Wireless Corp., ZTE Corp., and ZTE(USA), Inc.. Novatel said that the firms are infringing on five of its patents, related to the key architecture and functionality of its MiFi family of mobile hotspots. Novatel said the lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

St. Bernard Names New Marketing VP
San Diego-based St. Bernard Software, the developer of security tools, said earlier this week that it has named Tom Bennett as its Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development. Bennett joins the firm from Raytheon, where he was Director of Advanced Cyber Products and Alliances. Bennett also has served at Oakley Networks, Teros, Securant Technologies, AllBusiness.com, and Netscape Communications.

Semtech Taps IBM For New Chip Technology
Camarillo-based Semtech Corp., a manufacturer of analog and mixed signal semiconductors, said Wednesday that it has tapped IBM for a new, high performance ADC/DSP product. The firm said it is using IBM's 3d through-via (TSV) technology for the new chips, which have applications in fiber optic telecommunications, high performance RF sampling and filtering, test equipment and instrumentation, and sub-array processing for phased array radar systems.

Prometheus Laboratories, UCLA In Research Deal
San Diego-based Prometheus Laboratories, a developer of specialty pharmaceuticals, and the Regents of the University of California, Los Angeles campus, said Thursday night that they are in a exclusive research agreement.
