Emulex Says Folino To Transition To Board
Costa Mesa-based Emulex, the developer of storage and server networking hardware, said Tuesday that it Paul Folino, the firm's executive Chairman, will depart an active role at the company on November 29th, as part of a transition plan. Folino--who has been at Emulex since 1993--will continue to be Chairman of the Board. Folino hands the reins for the firm over to Jim McCluney, the firm's CEO. NASA JPL, Chevron Tie On Technology Development
The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, based in Pasadena, and Chevron Corporation said this week that the two are in a new partnership, to develop a range of advanced technologies for harsh environments, including both on Earth and in space. Baroda Ventures, Ashton Kutcher Back Fab.com
Los Angeles-based Baroda Ventures, the venture capital investment firm of GeoCities founder David Bohnett, has re-upped its investment in fashion site Fab.com. YouMail Hits 2 Million Users In US
Irvine-based YouMail, the enhanced voicemail service headed by Alex Quilici, said today that it has reached 2 million registered users in the United States. The company said the user counts are double what it had a year ago. YouMail offers up an enhanced voicemail service which works with any mobile phone, and includes apps for the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices; the firm is venture backed by VantagePoint Capital Partners, the Tech Coast Angels and Siemer Ventures.

ThinkNear Gets $1.6M For Location-based, Mobile Ads
Culver City-based ThinkNear, a new startup focused on helping local merchants reach consumers with mobile, location-based ads, said today that it has raised $1.6M in a seed funding round. California Leads In IPO Filings In Q2, Says Report
California is currently leading in terms of the number of IPO registrations, as the IPO market has reached a new high, according to a report released today. According to a report from Ernst & Young, the second quarter of 2011 saw 140 potential IPOs, representing $23.7 billion in deals, the highest since the financial crisis started in late 2007. Tealium Takes On Web Tags
San Diego-based Tealium, a firm started by Websidestory/Visual Sciences/Omniture vets, said today that it has launched a product to help web marketers manage their digital marketing products. Los Angeles-based ShareSquare, the provider of QR code generation software and related mobile applications, has inked a deal with The Orchard, the independent music and video marketing and distribution firm. State Leaders Push For Business Tax Fix
A number of state leaders are seeking to fix an unpopular program being run by the California State Board of Equalization, which seeks to force small businesses to report and pay out-of-state sales taxes. Los Angeles Ranks Among Top AngelList Cities
The Los Angeles area ranks among the top markets for activity on the angel investment service AngelList, according to new statistics released by the service Monday. According to AngelList, Los Angeles was third in the list of top five locations with activity on the service. That list included Silicon Valley, New York, Los Angeles, London, and Chicago. American Apparel Ties With eBay For Online Store
Los Angeles-based clothing manufacturer American Apparel said today that it has entered into a multi-year partnership with eBay, where eBay will create a full, online lifestyle shop on its auction site. CoreLogic Divests Indian Operations
Santa Ana-based CoreLogic, a provider of financial and other information for the mortgage, automotive, property tax, and other areas, said today that it has sold off its India-based captive operations, CoreLogic Global Services Private Limited. Iteris Sells Vehicle Sensors Business For $14M
Santa Ana-based Iteris, the provider of traffic technology, said Monday that it has sold off its Vehicle Sensors business to Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, for $14M, plus potential earnout and royalty. SRS Labs Powers JVC TVs
Santa Ana-based SRS Labs, the provider of surround sound technology, said this morning that the firm's technology is being used in JVC branded flat-panel TVs.
