    Broadcom Ships 65nm Switching Silicon

Irvine-based Broadcom said today that it has shipped new Gigabit Ethernet switches based on 65 nanometer CMOS technology, which the firm said was the industry's first. The company said that the new switching chips are expected to enable lower power consumption and reduce overall system costs for developers of LAN hardware. The new silicon, available as Broadcom's StrataXGS 200 series of chips, is used by hardware manufacturers to design and build Ethernet switching products; according to Broadcom the new chips support up to 28 GbE ports, and 10/100/1000 Mbps operation, Ipv6 routing, and Layer 3 routing capabilities.
