Friedmann Joins Syntricity
San Diego-based Syntricity said this morning that Marc Friedmann has joined the company as President and CEO. Friedmann joins from EMC Corporation where he was Vice President of EMC's San Diego Labs, the result of the company's acquisition of San Diego-based Prisa Networks. Marc was founder and chairman of Prisa Networks, and also served at AMCC. According to Syntricity, the company's existing President and CEO, Jeff Teza, will continue to advise the company of strategic and business development (More info...)

Rustic Canyon Adds MCI Exec
Santa Monica-based venture firm Rustic Canyon Partners said this morning that it has named Shoa-Kai Liu a Senior Advisor to the firm. Liu was co-founder and VP of Market Development at Avanex, and was most recently Director of Network Technology Development at MCI. Rustic Canyon said Liu will work with its portfolio companies to identify new opportunities in existing and emerging areas of technology.

Peregrine Ships Software Asset Tool
San Diego-based Peregrine Systems has upgraded its AssetCenter asset management software. The company's latest 4.4 version of its software adds software usage tracking, authentication, and detailed analysis of assets for IT budget tracking. The company's asset management software is designed for managing license costs, tracking softare license agreements and to reduce risks from software audits.

LightPointe Enhances Channel Program
San Diego-based free space optics company LightPointe said that it has expanded its channel partner program for value added resellers and systems integrators. The company said that it has signed six channel partners in the US and Europe. The company's partner program includes training, marketing resources, and sales tools focused on selling its optical wireless bridges. LightPointe is backed by Sevin Roen, Cisco, Hauwei, and others.

ValueClick Expands Paid Search
Westlake Village-based ValueClick has rebanded and expanded its paid search services with the launch of ValueClick Search, a result of its acquisition of Search123 and its Simpli premium search network. According to the company, the new Simpli brand will offer publishers the ability to enhance search functionality on their sites, including search boxes, branded directories, and customized toolbars.
