Capstone Turbine Appoints CFO
Chatsworth-based Capstone Turbine has appointed a new Executive Vice President and CFO. The manufacturer of microturbine energy systems said that Walter "Chuck" McBride was appointed CFO and replaced Karen Clark, who resigned to pursue other interests. McBride was most recently EVP and CFO of First Consulting Group, and has also served at Emulex, Kistler Aerospace, Unplugged Communications and CalComp.

BakBone Encrypts Backup Data
San Diego-based backup software provider BakBone software has introduced new encryption capabilities to its software. The company said that its NetVault Encryption Application Plug-in Module enables encryption of backup data at database, file server, or desktops. The encryption solutions supports the CAST 128 encryption algorithm. DoubleClick Stockholders Approve Acquisition
New York-based Internet advertising firm DoubleClick reported this morning that its shareholders have approved the merger agreement that allows private equity firms Heller & Friedman LLC and San Diego-based JMI Equity to acquire the company. DoubleClick provides technology and data to advertising agencies and web publishers. The $1.1B buyout of DoubleClick takes the firm private and off of the NASDAQ. Intel Invests In Broadband Entertainment Firm
Revelations Entertainment and Intel have invested in a new Los Angeles-based firm, ClickStar, focused on online, broadband distribution of first run films. Revelations Entertainment, the production company headed by Morgan Freeman, said that the new company will focus on distributing premium movies directly to consumers over the Internet. XM, AOL Create Joint Venture
XM Satellite Radio, America Online, and Staples Center owner AEG said yesterday that the three companies are creating a Los Angeles-based joint venture to focus on multi-platform digital entertainment. The new company, Network Live, will focus on delivering live entertainment programming through the Internet, satellite, and other media such as wireless and HDTV broadcasts. Group Claims Blu-ray Better Than HD-DVD
The Blu-ray Disc Association is claiming this morning that consumers prefer the next generation DVD format over the competing HD-DVD format, after commissioning a poll of consumers. The group claims that consumers were given a side-by-side comparison of the two formats, with 58% of 1200 consumers preferring Blu-ray over HD-DVD.
