U.S. Venture Investing Hits Five Year High, Southern California Shines
Ernst & Young and Dow Jones VentureOne are reporting today that U.S. Venture Capital investing his a five year high in 2006, reaching $25.75B in investments. According to the report, there were 2,454 venture deals for the year nationally. MySpace Files Spam Lawsuit
Los Angeles-based MySpace said today that it has sued a user for violation of state and federal anti-spam laws. MySpace said that it has filed suit against Scott Richter and others for violation of the CAN-SPAM Act and California's anti-spam statute, and that it is seeking a permanent injunction barring Richter and others from MySpace, in addition to monetary damages. Broadcom Announces GigE Switch Line Upgrade
Irvine-based Broadcom said today that it is shipping a new generation of multi-layer Gigabit Ethernet switches. The firm's new StrataXGS III Gigabit Ethernet switches add new network admission control (NAC) features and network security. The switches also support Microsoft's Network Access Protection policy enforcement, part of Windows Vista and Windows Server products. The switches are an upgrade on Broadcom's existing line of Gigabit Ethernet switches.

Ingram Micro Targets IT Recycling
Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro has expanded into offering IT recycling of cell phones and ink cartridges, and has announced a new service called Ingram Micro Outlet / Recycle. Ingram Micro, which is a major distributor of IT products, said that the new program is a part of its ongoing efforts to preserve the environment and address the the problem of e-waste. Invitrogen Ties Into Procurement
Carlsbad-based Invitrogen said today that it has partnered with SciQuest, a provider of supplier management and procurement automation software. Invitrogen will offer SciQuest's on-demand software alongside its life sciences products. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. APEC Opens New Manufacturing Facility
Baldwin Park-based APEC, a contract manufacturer serving the medical device industry, said this morning that it has opened a new Asian manufacturing facility. APEC said that APEC ASIA will provide manufacturing for mid- to high-volume medical molding. The new facility will be located in Shenzhen, China, and will be 35,000 square feet and contain a Class 100,000 clean room.
