HYFN Acquired By LIN TV
Hermosa Beach-based digital agency HYFN has been sold to public firm LIN TV, which owns a number of television stations as well as mobile products, the firms said Thursday. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. HYFN was founded in 2000, and was part of Facebook's Preferred Marketing Developer Program. HYFN was advised by Angeles Capital Group's Peter Cowen and Andrew Williamson in the deal.

WhisperText Gets $3.0M
A stealthy, Santa Monica-based startup, WhisperText has raised $3.0 from what looks like a number of high profile investors. According to a regulatory filing from the company--which develops an iOS app that allows users to share their secrets and meet new people--the company involves such people as John Hadl (founder, chairman of Total Beauty Media); Jeremy Liew (ShoeDazzle, Lightspeed Venture Partners); and Brad Brooks (TigerText). Plan Bee Taps NameJet, AfterNic For .BUILD Top Level Domain
A Santa Monica-based domain venture, Plan Bee LLC, has selected domain name auction site NameJet--a joint venture of Santa Monica-based Demand Media and Web.com--along with domain marketplace AfterNic--to power initial distribution for its new top level domain, .BUILD. Wallaby Launches Updated Mobile App, Connects With Foursquare
Pasadena-based Wallaby, the startup led by Matthew Goldman which is trying to help consumers optimize their use of credit card rewards, launched a brand new Android application Wednesday. Factual Renames, Relaunches Geopulse API
Los Angeles-based Factual has renamed its Geopulse API, its API for providing demographic data based on geolocation information, to Geopulse Context, as part of what it called a major relaunch of the program. Microsemi Licenses Technology To Microphase, Exits Market Segment
Aliso Viejo-based semiconductor maker Microsemi annoucned this morning that it has licensed its detector log video amplifier (DLVA) technology to Microphase Corporation, and is exiting that market.
