3D Robotics Ties With Autodesk On Drone Mapping APIs
3D Robotics and CAD software maker Autodesk are teaming up to help companies better move data from 3D Robotics' drones, to the cloud, the two companies said on Monday. According to the two, 3D Robotics has connected into Autodesks's Forge Platform, a set of APIs, cloud services, and SDKs to help plug into Autodesk's software. The two said they are targeting the use of data from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the areas of the construction, telecom, survey, mapping, energy and infrastructure. (More info...)

Amazon Plans Bricks And Mortar Store In La Jolla
Amazon.com is getting set to open its second, bricks and mortar store in La Jolla this summer, according to a sign posted at a location in the Westfield University Towne Center Mall in San Diego. The sign says that Amazon Books will open in this summer. Amazon told the San Diego Union Tribune that it is hiring store managers and associates for the location. The brocks and mortar store will be the second for Amazon.com, which opened up a physical bookstore in Seattle in November.

J.J. Abrams To Produce Documentary On Google Lunar XPRIZE
Culver City-based XPRIZE has a signed up J.J. Abrams, the producer of Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens, to document the efforts behind the Google Lunar XPRIZE. Google said last week that Moon Shot, the new documentary of the teams behind the XPRIZE, will be created by director Orlando von Einsiedel, Executive Producer J.J. Abrams, Bad Robot, and Epic Digital. The series will be broadcast through Youtube. Google is awarding $30 million to teams who develop technology to design and build (More info...)

SpaceX: Rocket Has Hard Landing, Will Try Again
Hawthorne-based SpaceX reported over the weekend that it again was unable to land the first stage of the Falcon 9 on its floating barge, and will try again on the next launch. SpaceX--which has been attempting to land the Falcon 9 on its barge for future reuse and recovery--had previously landed the first stage of its rocket on land. City of Hope Hit By Phishing Attack
Duarte, California-based City of Hope, the research and treatment center for cancer and other diseases, reported late Friday that it was the target of a phishing email attack, which resulted in release of such information at patient names, medical records, treatment information, and more. According to City of Hope, the attack had targeted the email accounts of four staff members. BioIQ Expands To Atlanta
Santa Barbara-based healthcare technology provider BioIQ said it has expanded to Atlanta, and more than doubled its employee base in 2015. The company, which offers up home tests for medical conditions tied into healthcare improvement programs, announced the expansion as part of what it called a "record-breaking" year. No financial details were announced by the company, and the company did not say how many employees it now has. BioIQ is led by Justin Bellante.

MSC Software Gets Win In Italy
Newport Beach-based simulation software developer MSC Software reported a win in Italy this morning, with Riba Composites, a designer and manufacturer of structural parts and components. Financial impact of the win were not announced. MSC Software said that Riba Composites is using both is MSC Apex and MSC Nastran Nonlinear products.
