Vitesse Goes 4 Gig
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor announced yesterday that it is shipping a new 4 Gbps Repeater/Retimer for the high speed networking market. The new VSC8228 supports Fibre Channel networking market, and 125 Mbps to 4.25 Gbps for Gigabit Ethernet, ESCON, Infiniband, and SONET/SDH signal conditioning. The new device is used by hardware manufacturers to ensure a clean signal when transmitting high speed networking signals, and improve the quality of signals in 4G Fibre Channel systems.

Acacia Gets Nokia Patent Win
Newport Beach-based Acacia Technologies has scored another patent licensing win, this time against Nokia. The firm, which acquires licenses and then pursues companies with patent licensing suits, said that it has entereted into a license with Nokia covering patents that cover multi-dimensional bar codes. The company said that its VData subsidiary is currently in patent enforcement litigation on the multi-dimensional bar codes against Adidas, Advanced Micro Devices, Stamps.com, and Hitachi Global (More info...)

Tarari Taps Into IBM BladeCenter
San Diego-based Tarari said today that it is teaming with IBM to combine Tarari's Encoder Accelerator for Windows Media and IBM's eServer BladeCenter platform. Tarari's hardware platform will be used to accelerate encoding of Windows Media content running on an IBM BladeCenter platform. Tarari's Encoder Accelerator device offloads Microsoft Windows Media encoding applications, and integrates into any BladeCenter HS20 or IBM IntelliStations workstations. Titan Acquires Intelligence Data Systems
San Diego-based defense information and communications contractor Titan Corp. (NYSE:TTN) this morning said that it has acquired Intelligence Data Systems, a technology and professional services firm for the U.S. intelligence community, for $42.5M. Titan said that IDS provides data mining, high-performance computing, data analysis, information fusion, and information sharing expertise and will complement Titan's technical support porfolio for the intelligence community.

Movielink Offers Movieoke Downloads
Santa Monica-based broadband video-on-demand company Movielink said today that it is offering up free downloads of "Movieoke" winners from the Gen Arts Film Festival in New York. According to the company, "Movieoke" is apparently similar to karoake where participants recite well known dialogue lines from movies. Scenes from film are projected onto a screen, and then participants voice those scenes. Study: Users Learning To Live With Spam
The Pew Internet & American Life Project has released another study, this time, showing that Internet users are learning to live with the near continuous bombardment of spam email. The survey, conducted between January 13 and February 9, showed that 28% of users with personal email said they are getting more spam than a year ago, with 22% getting less. 53% of users said that spam has made them less trusting of email this year, versus 62% a year ago. Janus Pharmaceuticals Raises $2M
Pasadena-based biotech firm Janus Pharmaceuticals has raised a $2M Series A financing round. The funding came from Private Equity Japan Co. Ltd. Janus Pharmaceuticals is developing treatments for various dermatological diseases. Shinji Kimura, Managing Director of PEJ has joined the company's board. The venture was founded by Catalyst Pharma Group, a company which takes Japanese pharmaceuticals and commercializes them in the United States.
