VMIX Raises Series B Funding
San Diego-based VMIX Media said Thursday that the company has closed a Series B funding from its existing investors, Mission Ventures and Enterprise Partners Venture Capital. Amount of the funding was not disclosed. VMIX provides an online video slideshow and user-generated content and sharing web site. VMIX said that it will use the funding to augment its growth. The company also revealed that its user base has now reached 1.3 million unique visitors per month.

Enterprise Partners Promotes Zsebo To Venture Partner
San Diego-based venture firm Enterprise Partners said this morning that it has named Krisztina Zsebo, Ph.D. as a Venture Partner in the firm's Life Sciences practice. Zsebo was most recently a Principal and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the firm, and has also served as CEO and President of portfolio company Celladon. Zsebo has also served at Amgen, Cell Genesys, ALZA, and Remedyne Corp.

Fonality Upgrades Telephony Software
Los Angeles-based Fonality said Thursday that it has upgraded its trixbox IP-PBX software, releasing version 2.0 of the package. The software, which is based on the open source Asterisk IP telephony package, now includes contact management features, monitoring, and a new point and click installation tool. According to Fonality the new version provides increased reliability and stability, user-customization, and support for a wide range of hardware vendors.

Streamload Gets Win With Backup Provider
San Diego-based Streamload has scored a win with an online backup provider, Proxure, the firm said this week. Proxure, which develops an application called KeepVault for backing up Windows Media Center PCs, will use Streamload's online storage and digital media storage services for its backup service. Streamload said that users will get up to 25GB of free online storage for their media through KeepVault.

Broadcom Rolls Out Set Top Box Chip
Irvine-based Broadcom said this week that it has rolled out a new digital cable set-top box chip, that incorporates HD AVC encoding, DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem support, and other features. The system-on-a-chip is targeted at digital cable set-top box manufacturers. The new chip also includes unique identification and key management systems for content security, along with support for the latest generation of video compression standards.

Power-One Names CTO
Camarillo-based Power-One has appointed a new Chief Technology Officer, saying this week that Dr. Alexander Levran has joined the company from Magnetek to serve in the position. Levran will oversee design and technology management at the firm. Power-One is a designer and manufacturer of power supply and conversion products for the telecommunications and computing industry. Power-One acquired Chatsworth-based Magnetek's power electronics group in September.

NovaCardia Appoints CFO
San Diego-based NovaCardia has appointed a new executive, saying Thursday that it has added John E. Crawford as Chief Financial Officer for the firm. Crawford was most recently CFO at Cabrellis Pharmaceuticals, and has also served at COnforma Therapeutics, International Genetic Engineering, and Corvas International. NovaCardia is developing biopharmaceuticals in the cardivascular area.

Plimus Acquires Order1.Net
San Diego-based Plimus, a firm that builds and managed online businesses for software publishers, web hosting firms, and online retailers, said Thursday that it has acquired Order1.Net, a provider of e-commerce services for software authors. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Plimus provides software registration, subscription, and licensing software targeted at shareware and other software.

Conexant Shows Triple Play Chipset
Newport Beach-based Conexant has rolled out a new chipset for the DSL market, saying yesterday that it has introduced a new VSDL2/ADSL2plus convergence chipset. The new chipset targeted use in triple-play voice, video, and data equipment for broadband services. Conexant said that it has secured design wins for the its new Accelity-2 silicon at Calix, Huawei, NEC, Schmid Telecom, and ZTE. The new chipset is available in sample quantities now, with production scheduled for March.
