Los Angeles Continues To Rank Second In IT Jobs
A recent analysis issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco shows that Los Angeles continues to rank second in the number of IT jobs nationwide. The analysis, part of a look at recent trends in San Francisco Area IT Employment, found that the Bay Area led the nation in terms of IT employment, followed by Los Angeles at second, Washington, D.C. at third, and Boston at fourth. Alelo Gets Win In Australia
Los Angeles-based software provider Alelo said Wednesday that it has scored a win for its language training software with the Austrialian Defence Force. Alelo, which develops language and culture training software built on a video game platform, said that the Australian Defence Force will use the firm's product to teach spoken languages and cultures of Iraq and the Pashtun regions of Afghanistan. Transpera Hires VP
Santa Monica-based Transpera, a venture backed mobile video firm, said today that it has named Nick Glassman as Vice President of Product Development. Glassman joins the firm from MediaFLO, where he was Executive Producer of the company's live video service. Glassman has also served at PacketVideo, Excite, Moxi Digital, Silicon Graphics, and Pixar Animation. SEMDirector Adds Ariba Co-Founder To Advisory Board
San Diego-based SEMDirector, a company developing automated search marketing tools, announced this morning that it has added Keith Krach, former chairman and CEO of Ariba, to the firm's advisory board. Krach is currently CEO of 3 Points LLC. Krach joins a ten member advisory board which provides the company with advice and guidance. SEMDirector is developing software which automates search engine marketing processes, and is venture backed by Voyager Capital.

Broadcom Gets Nokia Design Win
Irvine-based Broadcom is reporting today that Nokia has selected the firm's basedband processor and companion chips for future EDGE mobile phones. Details of the design win were not announced, however Broadcom said that Nokia will use its advanced single-chip cellular baseband processor and its companion power management unit for selected future mobile phones. The win is for Broadcom's BCM21331 single-chip multimedia processor, which the firm announced in February.

Linspire Revs Linux OS
San Diego-based Linspire, the consumer-focused Linux operating system firm, revealed a new version of its free Linux distribution today. Linspire said that its Freespire 2.0 Linux release is based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution, and adds the firm's proprietary drivesr, codecs, and applications for a better user experience. QLogic Announces 8Gb Fibre Channel Products
Aliso Viejo-based storage area networking developer QLogic said today that it has revealed a portfolio of 8Gb Fibre Channel devices. The new products include Fibre Channel switches and host bus adapters, used for the storage area networking market. Solatube Gets Mezzanine Funding
Vista, California-based Solatube, a developer of natural lighting systems for the residential, commercial, and institutional markets, has raised a mezzanine round of funding from Praesidian Capital. Praesidian Capital said yesterday that the funding will go to fund growth plans for Solatube. Amount of the investment was not disclosed. Fonality Releases New Software
Los Angeles-based Fonality has released a new version of the firm's trixbox PBX platform, saying this morning that the software has incorporated the latest version of the open source Asterisk PBX software. trixbox 2.4 is a beta release of the software, which Fonality said includes greater compability with hardware, and reduced install time, among with other enhancements.
