WSCN Gets Funding From InterMedia
Los Angeles-based World Championship Sports Network (WCSN) announced Monday that it has receive a new round of private equity funding from InterMedia partners. Size of the investment was not disclosed. WCSN operates a broadcast and online network featuring sports programming. The funding will go towards the company's live sports coverage. Language Weaver Signs Reseller
Los Angeles-based Language Weaver, which develops automated language translation software, said Monday that Cambridge, Mass.-based Linguistic Systems will resell the firm's technologies. Language Weaver said that Linguistic Systems will resell its products to government and enterprise customers. Language Weaver is a developer of language translation software based on statistical machine translation.

NTI Group Gets Win At LAUSD
Sherman Oaks-based The NTI Group, a developer of mass notification and communications services, said this morning that the Los Angeles Unified School District has selected the firm for its mass notification system. The system will be used both for emergency communications, along with school announcements and attendance notifications to parents. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. First American Buys Proxix Solutions
Santa Ana-based First American, a provider of business information, said today it has acquired Proxix Solutions, a provider of geospatial information for the insurance, mortgage, and other industries. Financial terms were not disclosed. First American said that Proxix will be integrated into a new, Austin, Texas-based division for the firm, First American Spatial Solutions. Qualcomm Signs License With TechFaith
San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that it has granted TechFaith Wireless Communication Technology Limited with a license to develop, manufacture, and sell subscriber units and modems using its patents. TechFaith, which is a British Virgin Islands corporation which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China TechFaith Wireless, will use the license to develop handsets and modem cards. Emulex Gets Win With Storage Provider
Costa Mesa-based Emulex said this morning that its serial attached SCSI (SAS) controller is being used by storage systems provider AMCC. Emulex said that its SAS I/O Controller product is shipping in AMCC 3ware's 9690SA RAID controllers; the firm's embedded semiconductors are used to connect storage systems to SAS disk drives. Emulex is a developer of storage area networking semiconductors and other products.

Experian Launches Identity Theft Protection Service
Irvine-based Experian Consumer Direct, a provider of credit reports and credit monitoring products, said this morning that it has launched an identity theft monitoring web site, FamilySecure.com. The new credit monitoring service targets parents and guardians, and their children. According to Experian, the new service will notify parents of credit inquiries, open accounts, and other public records about their minor children. Experian said it will offer the service for $19.95 per month.

Qualcomm Hires General Counsel From Apple
San Diego-based Qualcomm said Friday that it has hired Donald J. Rosenberg as the firm's Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Rosenberg joined the firm from Apple, where he held the same position. Rosenberg has also served at IBM. Rosenberg was replaced by Oracle General Counsel Daniel Cooperman on Friday.
