Whyville Gets Links On New Dell Laptop
Pasadena-based Whyville, the kids educational virtual world, has scored a deal to be included as a featured desktop icon on a new Dell laptop, Dell disclosed Tuesday afternoon. Dell said it is launching a new laptop along with children's cable network Nickelodeon, called the Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition. Covario Launches Services Arm
San Diego-based Covario, a provider of search engine marketing and SEO automation software, said Tuesday that the firm has launched a new services arm, focused on agency services. The firm said that it has created its own, SEO delivery team to compliment the firm's technology offerings. Covario's software automates much of the SEO work that traditional agencies have provided. DriveCam Raises $19M More
San Diego-based DriveCam, a developer of systems for monitoring driver behavior, said Tuesday that it has raised $19M in a Series D funding. The round was led by Triangle Peak Partners and also included prior investors Menlo Ventures, JMI Equity, Insight Venture Partners and Integral Capital Partners. The firm said the funding will go towards accelerating growth at the firm, and for investments in its technology and solutions. The funding brings the company's total raised to around $67.6M.

Patent Suit Spawned By NTI Group Buy Settled
A patent lawsuit against educational software provider Blackboard, which was spawned by the acquisition of Sherman Oaks-based NTI Group last year, has been settled, according to Texas-based TechRadium. TechRadium, which had sued Blackboard in May after it acquired emergency messaging provider NTI Group for $182M, said that the two firms have agreed to cross-license several patents and patent applications. Los Angeles-based Loudvine.com, a new, Web 2.0-style, online community site focused on music fans, said today that it is now live in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County, and San Diego. Emergent Ties With 3D Animation Firm
Calabasas-based Emergent Game Technologies, a provider of video game development tools, said this morning that it has integrated its Gamebryo LightSpeed product with 3D game animation firm Mixamo. The two firms said that LightSpeed developers will have access to Mixamo's new animation services through its products. The integration comes through LightSpeed's partner program. MaMoCa Acquired By Motion Analysis Corporation
San Clemente-based MaMoCa, which develops motion capture technology for the animation and video game market, has been acquired by Motion Analysis Corporation, the firm's CEO, Gene Alexander, told socalTECH today. SpotRunner Shifts Local Ad Efforts To Yodle
Los Angeles-based Spot Runner announced today that the firm has partnered with Yodle, an online advertising network, where Yodle will handle local online advertising services for Spot Runner's clients. According to the firms, Spot Runner said it is shifting the local advertising operations to Yodle to focus on its Malibu Media Platform. Qualcomm: Class Action Suit Dismissed
San Diego-based Qualcomm said this morning that the firm has been granted a motion to dismiss a consumer, class action lawsuit against the firm. The company said the United States District Court for the Southern District of California has granted the firm's motion to dismiss a class action lawsuit from Christopher Lorenzo, which had claimed antitrust violations and unfair competition by the company. ExpenseBay Gets Win With TripIt
Santa Monica-based ExpenseBay, the online, expense report automation startup founded by Eric Sikola, is announcing today that it has integrated with web site TripIt. Xirrus Adds Australian College
Thousand Oaks-based Xirrus said today that it has deployed the firm's wireless arrays at Galen Catholic College, a school located in Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia. Financial impact of the sale was not disclosed. Xirrus, which manufactures hardware which combines multiple wireless access points and switching in a single device, said the college is replacing an existing Wi-Fi network with its hardware.
